We call this <em>echoing</em> because it gives the appearance that you are typing the lines yourself. </p> <p>When a line starts with ‘<samp>@</samp>’, the echoing of that line is suppressed. The ‘<samp>@</samp>’ is discarded before the line is passed to the shell.
